In this quirky romantic comedy about love and fate, a young greeting card writer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is hopelessly, helplessly searching for the girl of his dreams…and his new co-worker, Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel), may just be “the one.” But the 500 days of their offbeat relationship reveal (in no particular order) that the road to happiness can be unpredictable, uncontrollable—and unbelievably funny!

The perfect soundtrack (indie-pop infused with cleverly ironic 80’s hits), the smart cinematography, the occasionally broken fourth wall… It’s a natural progression from mid-00

Zooey Deschannel. She’s cute and quirky in a general sense, but she’s not drop dead gorgeous. And Deschannel’s performance is so vacant, and offset that with Gordon-Levitt who is acting his heart out, it’s like there’s nothing really to her to make someone fall that in love with her.
"Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!!!" My childhood.
I really liked this one.
I know they played the whole thing off like Tom just wasn’t "the one" for Tom, and that when she found the right guy her trust issues and the whole push/pull game that she had been playing fell by the wayside, but her "Lets just be friends/Now I’m gonna kiss you/Now lets hook up and date/Now we’re just friends" etc. and the really happy high followed by the intense lows, ie. her sudden lack of happiness and the way that things that used to make her happy no longer did– lashing out at Tom, etc. Made it seem like they were illustrating someone with more than just a little fear of commitment.
And then seeing Tom and flirting with him again after she broke up with him and while she was seeing someone else and getting engaged so quick after getting out of a relationship with someone else– she seemed to go through highs and lows and phases of impulsive reckless behaviors… this was also highlighted a little by her talking about her past, not to mention her dissatisfaction and sadness with he childhood etc.
Did anyone else think "Hmm… this girl seems like she has borderline personality disorder…"
