Nuclear weapons are the reason that NATO and the USSR/Communist bloc didn't start World War 3 and why the USSR didn’t go to war with China in the 1970s. Without the threat of annihilation our society would just go back to the early twentieth century when nations were constantly building their militaries bigger and bigger to outclass each other. Arms races eventually lead to war. Really, we should be thanking the bomb for giving us 65 years without a major war. Limiting the number of nukes and nuclear armed countries is good but calling for zero nukes is just hippie drivel. It would be so great if we all could get rid of weapons, smoke weed and talk about love all day long. But in the real world people are inherently stupid and violent and we need overwhelming, doomsday weapons to scare people into being civil towards one another. <br> <br>So lets give a peace prize to the nuclear missile! Afterall, the threat of nuclear apocolypse has stopped more wars from starting than the UN and the League of Nations combined. You want zero nukes huh?
