Crazy Heart [Blu-ray]
Journalist helps a broken down musician get redemption. In a career filled with unforced, naturalistic performances, Jeff Bridges gives one of his finest in Crazy Heart. His oft-married, booze-soaked troubadour Bad Blake has just rolled into Santa Fe when he meets Maggie Gyllenhaal’s journalist Jean. “Where do all the songs come from?” she asks during their initial encounter. “Life, unfortunately,” he sighs. Against Jean’s better judgment, her fling with Blake blooms into a full-fledged relations

This movie was ok but the story line seemed just like the wrestler and even Jeff Bridges performance was similar to Mickey Rourike.
What can we, as a collective market, do about the new trend of releasing rental DVDs without bonus features. I can’t afford to buy every movie I want to see, so I rent. But I do want to see the bonus material. I love my Netflix and Redbox. Great companies both. But the greedy, and ignorant studios don’t think we renters deserve to see the bonus stuff! Do they really think we’ll go out and buy it instead? We can’t afford it!!!! That’s why we rent. Most movies aren’t worth a second viewing anyway.
We need to work together on ending this practice. Any ideas?
Did anyone else notice the references to The Big Lebowski in Crazy Heart?
1)Both The Dude and Bad Blake retrieve their sunglasses from a disgusting place – the toilet and a bucket of puke, respectively.
2)The set-up of the bar in the bowling alley is the same in both films, with the same shot of The Dude and Bad Blake sitting at the bar with the lanes behind them.
3)Both The Dude and Bad Blake own cars that they describe as having "rust coloration" – The Dude says this to the cops after his car is stolen and Bad says this to Jean as they are packing his car before he lives her house.
I can’t help but think these are deliberate references to The Big Lebowski! It is just too much of a coincidence. Anyone notice any others?
There were a couple more.
1) When he’s waking up from his hangover, Jack calls him on the phone. It sounded very similar to the part in TBL when he’s at Jack “Jackie” Treehorn’s house. I was waiting for him to say, “you make a hell of a Caucasian Jackie”
2) When he’s in the boat fishing with his buddy, he asks him to pass an “oat soda.” He used those exact words when ordering a brew at the bar in TBL at the end of the movie.
I’m sure there are more…
