Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World [Blu-ray]

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a finger-blistering time capsule of right now, yet in a hundred years it will still be so crammed with charm, wit, brio, and exuberance it will still be irresistible. Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera, Superbad) is an accidental heartbreaker, a Canadian slacker who obsesses over the girls who’ve dumped him but hardly realizes how he’s dumped other girls. But everything else in his life (including playing bass in a band) fades to insignificance when he lays eyes on Ramona

I saw this last night in a preview screening. It is entertaining and well paced. It’s also kind of sexist and a smidgen racist. The Chinese were represented by stereotypical mindless shrieking school girls and idm ninjas who at some point became new years dragons.

The premise of the entire film is sexist. They present Ramona as an independent badass riotgrrl ("she’s so hardcore!") type but the movie is premised on the fact that she is controlled by a man and her love life is controlled by her 7 evil exs, who she needs a man to defeat for her. She has no control over her own sexuality and is always at the mercy of men/others. I think it’s a fine movie I just hope young girls don’t get the wrong idea. It’s not badass to be spineless and manipulated or need to be saved by men.

How many times is this little weasel going to play the exact same character in the exact same movie before you morons decide against seeing it? I want to set this guy on fire at this point.

This might be the worst tag-line I’ve read. That’s the best they could come up with? Guess they’re really trying to reach out to the audience who uses Youtube. The word ‘epic’ is over-used. Anytime it’s written as an adjective I want to punch puppies.
