Why isn´t taking off?
James Bond, Conan and Star Wars almost instantly spawned dozens of low budget clones, both in film and Television, and I feel you need the low-budget copy to keep the genre alive and viable and to prevent stagnation.
So the question is, are these films not popular enough to warrant copying, are production costs to insurmountable or is the percived fanbase too small for filmmakers to risk putting their own Superhero flicks into production?
Maybe it´s just to early to tell.
